THE LIFE OF A SHOWDOG AND THE POLITICS/MONEY BEHIND THEM

SHOW DOG ADVERTISING | CAMPAIGNING – Full article Here

quote: "I suggested that a would-be breeder looking for a purebred dog would have to stumble over the fact that there’s a dog show nearby. If a local breeder or family does go there, well, they are going to be disappointed because the dogs are either shut up in big rigs, being prettied up, or they are in the show ring. They can’t be touched and nobody has time to talk. She became thoughtful. I know the look." unquote

The image above shows how these dogs are crated and stacked one on top of another traveling with their handler from show to show across the country. Don't fool yourself, there is tons of money behind these dogs and so called "championships" can be won. Show dogs in my opinion have terrible lives.

With so much money riding on dogs, are you getting what you think? Based on my experiences, I now question whether the dogs pedigree is really what it says, or whether the health tests are really from the dog they say it is. on what I have experienced; show breeders breed for the ring and will resort to anything to get the look. Getting other breeder's lines behind the back door. If you are considering a puppy from an AKC high volume show breeder; make sure to ask for verification through DNA tests, that your puppy is really who they say it is.

Small non AKC show kennels are not concerned with the politics of the show ring; therefore they have less to lose and I believe they are far more honest. There really is no reason for them to behave the way the AKC and it's show breeders do.

BEWARE OF AKC BREEDERS/JUDGES - CORPORATE PUPPY MILLS?

ARE YOU GETTING A BETTER DOG? BASED ON MY EXPERIENCES THE ANSWER IT NO!

Quote from article referenced above:

Quote: "We asked Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States: "If I'm looking to buy a dog and I see it has been AKC-inspected, AKC-registered, does that mean I'm getting a good dog?"

"Absolutely not. It really is just a piece of paper without any value for dog welfare," Pacelle told us." UNQUOTE

ARE YOU PUTTING YOUR DOG AT RISK TO BE STOLEN BY REGISTERING THEM WITH AKC?

AKC REGISTRATION FRAUD

THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHER REASONS BASED ON WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THE AKC SHOW BREEDERS/JUDGES AS TO WHY I DO NOT BELIEVE THE AKC IS A REGISTRY OF INTEGRITY OR THAT THEY ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE WELFARE OF THE DOGS. I WILL BE REGISTERING WITH UKC SOLELY BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY VERIFY THE OWNERS SIGNATURE ON EVER TRANSACTION AND OWNERS ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW THEIR OWN DOGS. SHOWING YOUR OWN DOGS MAKES FOR A MUCH FAIRER VENUE. CHAMPIONSHIPS CANNOT BE BOUGHT.

AKC CORPORATE PUPPY MILLS?

There are many more articles on the subject of the AKC and puppy mills. Just google it! The following are all good questions to ask a potential breeder. Does a breeder have more than one breed? How many litters per year are they producing? Do they require co-ownership agreements in which the co-owner must whelp a litter and give the breeder back one or more puppies? Do they breed puppies for a living? How many dogs do they own? Are they on their property? How many dogs have they owned that died in their possession? How old were dogs when they died? Ask to see the vet reports on dogs that died for potential health issues.

PEDIGREE FRAUD – AKC STUD BOOK? and the list goes on and on.

MAKING THEIR OWN MAJORS - "DEEP POCKETS" AND THE SHOW WORLD - THE SHOW WORLD ILLUSION. I'm thinking Westminster is just about the money?

When a breeder brings enough of their own dogs to a show where they know there is no competition to make their own major and get a championship for their dog. SCAM! DON'T BELIEVE THEIR MARKETING TOOLS! FOLLOW THE AKC MONEY TRAIL.

GETTING THE DOGS IN FRONT OF JUDGES ALL OVER THE COUNTRY - "CAMPAIGNERS" (GREAT ARTICLE EXPLAINS ALL ABOUT "FOLLOWING THE SHOW WORLD MONEY TRAIL!)

This is when a dog goes for months on end to shows all over the country. Doesn't matter if there is any competition because the purpose is for judges all over the country to "get an eye" on the dog and it's "well connected" handler. That way, when Eukanuba or Westminster comes up; the judges will recognize the handler and most likely that dog will win. It's all about following the money!

AKC and their corporate puppy mills. Be very wary of AKC show breeders who require you to breed your puppy in exchange for one or two puppies back. This is what was expected of me with my formerly co-owned girl bred by a large volume breeder in CA. Big and long time breeders / AKC judges will make deals like this with unsuspecting individuals to hide all the litters they are actually having each year. Many of these breeders have several breeds and breed 3,4. and 5 litters a year as their only income. These are what I refer to as "AKC corporate puppy mills". Based on my personal experiences; I believe they are breeding for the show ring and not for the health and welfare of the breed. Ask them how many co-owned dogs they have? How many litters between them and their co-owners? How old are the dogs in their possession? How many dogs have died in their possession, at what ages and what was the cause of death? Ask to speak to their vet? (after all, they ask you a lot of questions and you deserve to know about them) How many adult dogs have they placed and do they know their status? How many litters have they produced over the years?

"WHY DOG SHOW ENTRIES ARE DECLINING?"

FOLLOW THE MONEY > THE HANDLERS PAY A FEE TO THE AKC > THE HANDLERS GET CLIENTS WHO PAY SHOW ENTRIES > THE VENDORS COME THE SHOWS > PEOPLE STAY IN HOTELS AND EAT IN RESTAURANTS. HOW LONG DO YOU THINK PEOPLE WOULD PAY A HANDLER $100.00 + TO HANDLE THEIR DOGS IF THEY ARE NOT WINNING? I HAVE NOTICED THAT OVER IN EUROPE PEOPLE HANDLE THEIR OWN DOGS; MAKING IT A MUCH LEVEL VENUE IN MY OPINION.

AKC HANDLERS - EACH HANDLER PAYS A $250.00 TO BE REGISTERED ACCORDING TO THEIR WEBSITE: http://www.akc.org/handlers/links.cfm DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE YOU CAN WIN AGAINST THE MONEY? Here is an example of what AKC handlers may charge:

Best in Show………….……$450
Reserve Best In Show.........$270
Best In Show National…….$470
Best in Specialty…………..$250
Group I.……...………………$95
Group II……....………………$90
Group III………....……………$80
Group IV………...……………$75

FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL. IT IS PRETTY CLEAR TO ME. AGAIN, MY OPINION BASED ON MY OBSERVATIONS AND CONVERSATIONS WITH PEOPLE AT SHOWS.

BUYING A DOG UNDER CO-OWNERSHIP IS THE WORST POSSIBLE THING YOU CAN DO BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE BREEDERS. MY CONTRACT WAS BREACHED FOR MERELY SPEAKING WITH SOMEONE THE BREEDER DID NOT LIKE. IF YOU COMPLAIN; TUFF LUCK. TAKE MY ADVICE AND RUN. UNDER ACCORDING TO MY CO-OWNERSHIP I WAS TO BREED TWO LITTERS, GIVE TWO PUPPIES TO THE CO-OWNER AND PAY FOR EVERYTHING, VET, SHOW AND HANDLER FEES. THAT WOULD HAVE TOTALED UP TO APPOX. $7000.00 AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG? SOUND LIKE A GOOD DEAL TO YOU? IT DID NOT TO ME.

OWNER HANDLER DIVISION? IS IT WORTH THE MONEY? - CUT AND PASTE THE FOLLOWING LINK TO READ: http://www.apps.akc.org/classic/ohs/point_scale.cfm

For all of you wondering; do you get points toward an AKC "champion" status by entering in the owner handler division? Why would anybody throw money away like this? It is very insulting to me as to why AKC would assume their membership to be so dumb. This only validates my opinion that the AKC is only in it for the money. Why would anybody give them money to enter shows which have absolutely no value in terms of "championship" points.

Quote:

"AKC National Owner-Handled Series

AKC National Owner-Handled Series Point Scale

Note: AKC National Owner-Handled Series points do not contribute to championship points.
At an individual show a dog earns the cumulative number of AKC National Owner-Handled Series points associated with each placement.

HEALTH TESTING?

I saw results from a dog that had failed it's health tests on OFA. Once the results were posted (after the dog was two years old) they were changed? How does this happen? According to the OFA, the x-rays are read by three professionals. If the positioning of a dog was not correct; it seems to me that one out of three "professionals" might have noticed it and sent them back to be redone???

I LIKE OTHER BELIEVE THAT AKC "CHAMPIONSHIPS" MEAN NOTHING. WITH THE RIGHT HANDLER AND ENOUGH MONEY ANY DOG CAN WIN. BE SUSPICIOUS OF THOSE WHO DO NOT SHOW THEIR OWN DOGS. THEY PROBABLY WOULD NOT WIN WITHOUT A POLITICALLY CONNECTED HANDLER. I WAS TOLD BY A HANDLER THAT AKC CAME UP WITH A GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP CATEGORY BASICALLY TO KEEP THE MONEY FLOWING AND IF YOU ARE SHOWING YOUR OWN CHAMPION AGAINST A "HANDLER'S DOG" YOU MOST LIKELY WILL NOT WIN. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY AND NOT THE DOG BASED ON WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD AND EXPERIENCED. Be wary of those show breeders who "market" their dogs". Use your eyes! They will go on about a dog's parents and pedigree; but just because a dog had a certain parent does not mean it will be anything like the dog. It all boils down to what you want, not what they try to "sell you". Don't let anybody try to tell you to look for something that really isn't there.

With so much "politics" in showing I cannot really think why anybody would want to enter their dog in a dog show? Based on what I have seen and experienced with all show people it is only about the owner's ego and the money they think it will bring them in the end; not the dog. Seriously, think about what a huge waste of time it is and the fact that Tibetan Mastiffs would much rather be a home, sitting on the couch or in the yard guarding their territory! Why make them do such frivolous activities that they do not even enjoy?

Breeders who are judges? Could politics play a huge part in the AKC? CHAMPIONSHIPSHIPS AND POLITICS. Based on my experiences I believe it is all about the money and those who make it happen. I have seen images that have been photo shopped of Tibetan Mastiffs where the original photo looks nothing like the "enhanced" one. Some show people will do anything to sell their dogs by means of deception. Don't fall for the deceptive "show crowd" who are only interested in "peddling their dogs" any way they can.

STATE PUPPY MILL LAWS - REPORT

Contacting the Tibetan Mastiff Rescue might be a good idea when researching breeders. They may be able to supply you with valuable information regarding lines and health issues that come into rescue.

You can find many puppies all over the INTERNET for a fraction of the price of these AKC show breeders with similar pedigrees. I think smaller kennels who only produce one breed are far better. I find that the small non AKC breeders are far more ethical and honest. As stated below these are my opinions based on my experiences.ple.
